This fish theme activity will make a fun summer math center for your preschoolers or kindergarteners. There are 2 styles included – matching the number to the ten frame and matching the ten frame to the number.

A ten frame is basically a rectangle divided into 10 equal squares. Each square represents one. It’s a fabulous tool for helping young children visualise quantities and learn to count — far more important than just being able to memorize the numbers in order!
Using Your Fish Ten Frames
Print the pages according to the size you want – don’t forget to adjust your printer settings! I suggest printing 4 or 6 to a page and laminate them for easy and repeated use.
There are 2 parts included in this activity. In the first part, your students will look at the ten frame shown and count how many fish there are. In the second part, your students will look at the number shown from 1 to 10 and then find the matching ten frame that represents the numeral. This ocean theme activity will help them master subitizing with ten frames.
This is a simple but effective activity that also incorporates a fine motor aspect. When you student uses a small wooden peg or clip to mark their answer, they are exercising their finger muscles.
You can also make this a self-checking activity by placing a small sticker at the back of the card at the correct letter. This way, the student will flip the card and they can check if they got the answer correct.
