What’s In Your Fruit And Vegetable Activity Pack
In this fruit and vegetable activity pack, you get five easy to use healthy eating activities as soon as you hit the download button:
1. Shadow matching – the first activity you’ll find is a shadow matching printable for preschool. This is a great way to teach visual discrimination, where students have to learn to identify objects based on their physical properties. In this activity, students have to match the fruit or vegetable with their shadow, or vice versa. Students could play this independently and see how quickly they can match the pictures and shadows, or as a collaborative game and take turns finding healthy matches.
2. Beginning sounds – the next activity is one that will fit with your early literacy centers. Students will see a picture of different fruits and vegetables with a series of letters by the side. They will have to say the name of the healthy food out loud and listen for the beginning sound. They can then show their answer with a marker or wooden clip, and you can make this a self-checking activity by putting the correct answer on the back.
3. Bingo – you’ll then find a set of fruit and vegetable bingo printables. There are four playing cards and a call-out sheet, which you’ll need to cut out ahead of time. You could have students work in pairs as you read the fruits and vegetables out loud, or have students take turns being the leader and read the words out for each other.
4. Food sorting – being able to classify objects based on different properties is a key preschool skill for science and for math. The healthy eating sorting activity included in this fruit and vegetable activity pack gives you a great starting conversation about what foods are healthy and which ones should be eaten in moderation. Students can then complete the sorting activity using the included T chart, and you can extend this by having them draw further foods that would fit under each column.
5. I spy – finally, you get two sets of fruit and vegetable I spy. This is another great visual discrimination activity, as students have to match the shape that they’re looking for in the bigger field. The first I spy sheet challenges students to find as many of each fruit and vegetable as they can, which makes it a perfect timed challenge. The second sheet tells students how many of each fruit and vegetable there are, so students practice counting and know when the worksheet is completed.
