Thanksgiving occupies a unique position in the kindergarten calendar. Halloween is full of costumes and candy and Christmas brings excitement over presents and Santa. Thanksgiving is a buffer between these two that allows your classroom to become focused on gratitude and giving, as well as turkeys! These cute Thanksgiving printables for kindergarten will tap into your classroom theme and keep your students motivated to learn their foundational number skills.
Learning Number Words 1 to 20
These math kindergarten Thanksgiving activities come just at the right time in your student’s mathematical and reading development. Learning the number words 1 to 20 should be part of your November lesson plan even without these cute turkey designs as the students will be ready to associate number words with the numerical format. These turkey themed 3 part cards are a great way to have students match the number and word format, and you can bring all of their reading strategies around listening for the starting letters and short vowel sounds to help them recognize the spelling

Playing Games With Turkey 3 Part Cards 1 – 20
The only downside of Thanksgiving is that it comes at the end of a very long run of weeks of school starting some time around the end of summer. Students (and teachers!) are often exhausted by this stretch of intense learning, so gamifying your math centers will keep things fresh and engaging for you and your students. Try some of these kindergarten Thanksgiving activities with the 3 part cards:
-
Mix and match puzzle – the obvious game to play is to create a full set of the right hand side of each pages with the letter and the number words 1 to 20 on different cards. Initially challenge students to match the words and numbers with all the cards face up, and then have them time each other to see how quickly they can complete the challenge.
-
Snap/memory – incorporate a bit of turn taking and partner work by turning the above game into a round of snap or memory. For snap, have each player take a set of cards and turn them over in turn until they see a match of letter and number. For memory, lay all the cards out face down and have students take turns turning two over to find a match.
-
Movement breaks – Thanksgiving also marks a change towards colder and wetter weather, so you can use these 3 part cards to create a movement break. Simply post the different parts around the room and have your students either collect them in a treasure hunt or move quickly in order as they work out where all the cards are.
