Spring is a great time to talk about growing (both physically and socially/emotionally), plant cycles and new life. It also makes a great theme for your classroom, and these spring flowers draw and count worksheets will help your students work on writing numbers in words as well as rehearsing and nailing down their one to one correspondence counting skills.
Learning To Write Number Words
By springtime in your kindergarten year, students should have mastered the skill of writing the cardinal numbers, which makes this number tracing worksheet a good opportunity for you to check that the skill has been truly nailed down.
Your students should also be able to say the number words out loud, both in order and as they count a set of objects. This means that the draw and count aspect of these worksheets should also be easy. The tricky part, therefore, is learning to write number words, as not all of the number words up to ten are spelled phonetically.
By laminating these spring flowers worksheets, you’ll give your kindergarteners lots of practice in writing numbers in words as they will build muscle memory through tracing.

Extension Draw And Count Activities
It’s likely that your students will complete each number tracing worksheet in a very short period of time. This means that you should have some learning to write number words extension activities ready to go to get the most of out of this cute download:
-
Put them in size order – an important part of kindergarten math is to help them develop a sense of the number system. This includes being able to reason about the relative magnitude of different numbers, and these draw and count worksheets give you a ready made set of 1 thru 10 cards to play with. Give students three consecutive cards at a time, and have them put them in either ascending or descending order. Increase the challenge by using three non-consecutive cards.
-
Practice without the tracing – you can build additional practice writing numbers in words by using the space at the bottom of each of the spring flowers draw and count worksheets for writing practice. Start by giving students the start and end dots for each letter in the number words, and progress to having students copy the words from above to build the muscle memory for spelling and writing the number words.
-
Partner work – finally, you’ll always get more engagement when you allow your kindergarten students to work together. With these draw and count worksheets, give one person the stack of sheets and the other a blank piece of paper. The person with the flowers counts them up and says the number out loud. Their partner then has to write down the number they heard, both in number and word format, before checking their answer with their partner.
